Jess Rodriguez

(President)

Jess was born in New Jersey and grew up in Pembroke Pines, Florida. She has just graduated from Nova Southeastern University with her Masters of Science in Developmental Disabilities, after earning her Bachelors of Science for Early Childhood Development at Florida International University. Throughout high school, Jess was passionate about education and loved teaching. She was a part of the Urban Teacher Academy Program, where she had the opportunity to teach all grade levels. Her passion of serving her community grew in college when she started volunteering at her local hospital. Her love for education, her community and her experience in healthcare led to her to pursue her MS in Development Disabilities.

On her off time, Jess loves running obstacle course races with her gym and spending time outdoors. Jess is currently on the path of becoming a Certified Child Life Specialist and hopes to continue positively impacting her community through her work. She is truly inspired by the members and participants of Splash Pals & is excited to grow Splash Pals of Davie.

Mimi Lerman

(Treasurer)

Mimi was born and raised in the northern suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. She wanted to escape the cold winters of Chicago, so she decided to attend Nova Southeastern University beginning in Fall 2017. She is currently working on completing her bachelor’s degree in Speech Language and Communication Disorders. She is also a Dual Admit Speech Pathology student; this program guarantees the student a seat in Master of Science (M.S.) degree in the Speech Pathology program at NSU. Mimi’s long-term goal is to become a Speech and Language Pathologist who specializes with children with autism or traumatic brain injuries.

In her free time, Mimi enjoys hanging out with friends, spending time at the beach, and watching NCIS and the Chicago Franchise shows (Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago PD). Mimi is excited to be a part of the Splash Pals Adapted Aquatics program and working with children with disabilities. She is also excited to see these children grow and succeed.

Teresa Trejo

(Best Pals Coordinator)

Teresa was born in Chicago, Illinois but was raised in South Florida. She graduated from Everglades High School knowing she wanted to pursue the healthcare field helping others in need. Teresa volunteered in healthcare-related fields such as ER clinics and shadowed various physicians abroad in Spain under the Atlantis program. She soon attained her first healthcare related job as an ER medical scribe. She has observed physicians treat patients as Teresa inputted and updated patient information into records. Throughout this experience, she gained an interest in observing children suffer from hardships. Shortly after, she decided she wanted to start working with children. Teresa began working in NSU's Mailman Segal Preschool Center. Working with children has opened up my heart as it has made her find her true passion. She believes that all children are our future whether they have disabilities or not. All children must be cared for and educated as much as possible. She has recently graduated from NSU with her bachelors in Behavioral Neuroscience and currently going towards her Masters in Occupational Therapy. Teresa hopes to one day be able to make a difference in many children's lives, making their lives a little easier one day at a time! Splash Pals has surely given me the opportunity to start changing my dream into a reality!

Lexie Leon

(Vice President)

Lexie was born and raised in Maui, Hawaii and is a junior at Nova Southeastern University, where she is pursuing a Biology major and Psychology minor. Lexie is part of NSU's dual admission program for Osteopathic Medicine and wants to become a Pediatrician.

Lexie has become very involved in the NSU community over the past two years where she has worked as an Admissions Ambassador for the school and is currently working as a Peer Mentor for college students with autism who are attending NSU. Lexie is also an active sister in Phi Sigma Sigma. She is passionate about helping children, which is the main reason she loves Splash Pals. Lexie also volunteers in the kid's ministry at Greenhouse Church.

Natasha Quevedo

(Secretary)

Natasha was born in Long Island, New York, but was raised in Davie, Florida. In high school, she found a passion for dance and was dancing for her school’s dance team up until she graduated. She went to Broward college where she continued to take dance technique classes and graduated with her Associates of Arts degree. Natasha received her Bachelor of Science degree at Nova South Eastern University (NSU) in General Studies with concentrations of Dance and Education and a minor in Speech and Language Pathology.

Currently, Natasha is pursuing her Master of Science degree in Developmental Disabilities at NSU. Her future goal after she graduates is to become a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and help individuals with developmental disabilities. Splash Pals has given her the experience she was looking for to know she is on the right path.

Jessica Combs

(Outreach Coordinator)

Jessica Combs was born and raised in sunny South Florida. She is entering into her senior year at Nova Southeastern University (Fins Up!) and her major is speech, language, and communication disorders. Jessica is very passionate about her major and aspires to become an audiologist. She is an active member of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association as well as NSU’s chapter of the Student Academy of Audiology.      Jessica is also a part of the Alpha Chi and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies. During her off time, she enjoys scouting out the best coffee shops in Fort Lauderdale, listening to podcasts, and going to the beach. Jessica was attracted to Splash Pals because of the direct involvement with those in the community. She loved the idea of being a part of something that was hands-on and where she could positively impact children’s lives. Jessica says that Splash Pals has been a wonderful experience so far and looks forward to participating every week.
